  • 5k, 10k, half mar, full

guess i'll be running again much sooner than initially anticipated.

just registered for the following runs:

    - Apr 15th - Wrigley 5k run
    - Apr 22nd - Wrigley 10k Start Early Run
    - Apr 30th - Ravenswood 5k run

it helps when you have friends that are also participating.

"I am seriously thrilled that I've found people who actually love to run.  I think it'll be great that we will have each other for motivation... it isn't easy to train or run alone.  I haven't run this much since 2001 while I was in South Korea and even then I was running alone.  Believe me when I say I'm very excited and look forward to running with this same group for the half and full marathon and all those fun 5k and 10k runs along the way.  I don't think that I'll be able to handle a full marathon this year but I'll be at the finish line to support anyone that does compete.  The half marathon is starting to sound much easier to attain with all this positive energy.  And great job on the Shamrock Shuffle everyone."

all the events are of course for good causes:

  • Shamrock Shuffle

"Congratulations on finishing The 2006 LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle 8K!
Your chip time was 0:50:07 and you placed 12425 out of 20,408
    finishers."

Not bad considering my only training consisted of running 8k on a treadmill once in Jamaica 2 weeks before the Shamrock Shuffle.

I'm thinking half marathon is next on the list.

  • Spent Christmas with the Laus.  Had a fun time playing monopoly and dinner was excellent.  As always, the Laus were very gracious hosts.

Also, got a chance to sneak a peek at how my building and unit was developing since they live in the same development that I'll be moving into.  Spoke with the sales agent and he tells me my place may not be ready 'til 1st quarter '07.

Bldg 5 & 6.  The building to the right (Bldg 6) is where my unit will be.

A 4th level is being added for the "penthouse units" and the workout facility.  The fitness center will be built at the end of the building  and my unit will be right next to it (so no more excuses).

Shown below (Bldg 3) is what a finished building will look like (but pic is too dark to apprexiate... more pics to come)

Also went car shopping over the weekend and was disappointed with the VW Jetta... just didn't do it for me.  So, I shopped around a bit more and I stumbled into my new car.  Though I never pictured myself buying from this car maker, I fell in love at first sight.  Meet my new baby (yes, she is mine... took me 4 hours of negotiating but got close to my asking price - she's the one in red):

What an awesome way to start the new year!

  • I've only been working at Merrill for about three weeks now.  Haven't received too many projects yet since I'm just starting to receive network access / tools.  One of the managers pulls me aside before lunch and tells me to be back by 12:45 because we're going to have a network meeting with the other managers.  Hmm.. that's random... must be something big going on.  I head over to their offices with a pad and pen and he cuts me off and tells me that one of the managers isn't ready yet and he'd come and grab me when they're ready.  After about 5 minutes, he grabs me from my office and we head to the back offices for the meeting.  I walk into the room to find it full of people shouting at me.  Happy Birthday!!!    In the middle of the back table was a huge ice cream cake.  I dropped my pad and pen, and pretended to head toward my office.  I was set up, there was no meeting!

My friends picked me up after work.  As we were driving through downtown, we noticed one of the buildings with a huge glass window front and a big banner hanging inside: HOMELAND SECURITY.  But the place was closed... empty!!!  So, who's protecting us?!

Thanks to everyone that made it out last night to celebrate my birthday.  Haven't really gone out in a while.  Whirlyball, bowling, beer, and friends.  What more could I ask for?  ...more sleep... and some excedrin.
